They led their guest to a special spot prepared for the bath, where a reed mat was placed over what looked like a platform. They invited him to sit, but this was no platform. It was an old, deep well, cleverly covered with a fragile lattice of thin
sticks. The moment the fox spirit sat down, the sticks snapped. With a cry of surprise, it plunged into the dark, watery depths below. Without wasting a second, the family worked together, filling the well with heavy stones and earth, sealing the malevolent spirit within.
