It sounds like pure, unadulterated panic. How can he expect to get away with this when the receipts are literally being read in the chat? This raises an important question, actually, about what
psychologists call reality fragmentation in online spaces. You're right that it's panic, but the method of his panic is entirely dictated by the medium.
