Summary

Arachne, a talented Lydian weaver, challenged the goddess Athena to a weaving contest due to her hubris. Though Arachne was arguably more skilled, Athena could not allow a mortal to overshadow her as the archetype of perfect weaving. Arachne was transformed into a spider as punishment, eternally weaving as her nature.
