Hello and welcome back. Today we delve into another tale from the timeless collection of the vital pachesi. A story of loyalty, fate, and the true measure of greatness. The sprite on King Vikram's shoulder began to speak again, its voice soft like a blade wrapped in velvet. Oh king, listen. There is a city
called Mithlvadit, ruled by a king named Gundip. One day, a young Rajep named Karam Deva arrived at his court. He was fresh from a distant land carrying nothing but pride, hunger, and a hope sharp enough to cut. Every day Karanddeva went to the palace to bow before the king. Every day he was not seen. He wasn't rejected, which would
have been kinder. Worse, he was completely unnoticed. A whole year passed like that. His money slowly ran out, one disappointment at a time. Back in his homeland, his family suffered because waiting has a cost and fate always charges interest. Then one day the king decided to go hunting. The court surged after him like a river of
hooves and shouting. Karamdeva slipped into the cavalcade. A shadow determined to become real. The forest swallowed the entire parade. Soon the king riding ahead became separated from his group. His attendants lost his trail and scattered into the jungle. Confused and directionless. Only one man stayed true, riding hard behind the king. It was
Karam Deva. He finally caught up and called out, "Your majesty, all your people have fallen behind. I alone have kept pace with you." The king reigned in his horse. As Karamdava came near, the king looked at him. I mean, he really looked at him for the very first time. "How have you become so thin?" the king asked, noticing his gaunt appearance.
Karamdeva answered like a man who has been simmering for a year and finally found release. If a master cherishes thousands but takes no thought of me, should I blame him? No, I blame my own fate. Then he offered a parable. By daylight, the whole world is visible, yet the owl cannot see. Do we blame the sun for the owls eyes? He continued, his
voice steady, laced with a clean, sharp bitterness. It amazes me that the one who fed me inside my mother s womb now forgets me after I'm born when I can actually eat the food of this world. I don't know if that creator is sleeping or is dead. Then king, he spoke a truth that makes comfortable people uncomfortable. In my opinion, it as
better to swallow poison and die than to beg from a great man who gives with a sour face his nose lifted. His brows raised as if generosity is a burden and you are just a stain. He laid out a grim little list, a code of conduct carved in stone. Second, laughing without a reason. Third, arguing with a woman.
Fourth, serving a bad master. Fifth, riding a donkey. And sixth, speaking without grace. Then he went deeper into the ledger of fate itself. Five things are written at our birth. Our length of life, our actions, our wealth, our knowledge, and our reputation. When his virtues decline, even his friends become
his enemies. But then his tone softened, almost becoming fair. One thing is certain, serving a good master brings benefit sooner or later. No service to goodness is ever wasted. The king listened to all of this. He didn't answer. Not yet. Instead, he decided to
test him. I'm hungry, the king said. Bring me something to eat. Karam glanced around the empty forest. Majesty, we won't find bread here. So he did what a resourceful man does when pride is useless. He went into the jungle, hunted a deer, and pulled a flint and steel from his pocket like a magician. He kindled a fire, roasted the meat, and
served the king until his hunger was completely satisfied. When the last bite was swallowed, the king said, "Now guide me back to the city." I don't know the road. Karama led him back, a compass in human form. He gave Karamdeva a high office. He draped him in fine robes and weighed him down with jewels. From that
day on, Karam Deva stayed close to the king, no longer a ghost at the gate. Now listen, King Vikram, because this is where the story becomes a trap, perfumed and alluring. One day, the king sent Karam Deva to the seaside on business. When the rage prey reached the shore, he saw a temple dedicated to the goddess Devk standing there like a stone vow
watching the waves. He entered, worshiped, and bowed, asking for nothing. As he walked back out, a beautiful woman appeared behind him as if she had been waiting in the seam of reality itself. "Oh man," she asked, "why have you come here?" Pir with his young blood and young eyes answered honestly. "I came seeking pleasure and
at the sight of your beauty, I am fascinated." She smiled. It wasn't a warm smile, but it wasn't cold either. It was certain. If you have designs on me, she said, then first bathe in that pool. After that, I will listen to you. Kiran Deva removed his bathrobe, stepped
into the water, and dipped his head under. When he rose and looked around, he was standing in his own city instantly, as if the sea had spit him clear across the map. Fear grabbed him by the throat. He hurried home, dressed himself, and ran to the king to tell him the whole strange tale. He ordered horses and they rode for days until the
sea appeared before them again, a mirror to the unknown. They entered the same temple and worshiped Devk. And when the king stepped out, she looked at the king, handsome, royal, shining with authority, and she became captivated. "Oh king," she said, her voice filled with admiration. "I will do any command
you give me." The king didn't waste the moment. If you will truly obey, he said, then you will become the wife of my servant. How can I possibly become his wife? The king<unk>s voice stayed calm, but his words landed like iron. You said you would obey any command. Good promises are not ornaments. They are
law. Keep your word. Become the wife of my servant. She lowered her eyes. Your word is law to me. So the king married his servant to her right then and there. No grand ceremony, no public spectacle, just a command, a consent, and a consequence. And he brought them both back to his palace. The sprite finished
its story and stared at you, King Vicram, as if looking right through you. Tell me, it asked, "Between the master and the servant whose virtue was greater." You answered immediately without hesitation. "The servants?" The sprite tried to snare you and then gave her away to his servant. and you sharp
as ever cut right through the trap. What special merit is there in giving favors when it is your job to give them? You asked. Then you delivered the real verdict, the one that stings the proud. He is greater who, while having his own interests to attend to, promotes the interests of another. For that reason, you concluded, the servant's merit was
the greater. And as always, speaking the truth has a price. The sprite slipped from your shoulder and flew back to hang itself again on the same tree. And you, King, turned back bound it, lifted the corpse onto your shoulder, and carried it onward. Because the path doesn't end just because you're right. It only tightens. Thank you for joining me on
