But the youngest, oh, the youngest was a marvel, her name was Psyche. Her beauty was so profound, so utterly breathtaking. And it began to draw the
attention not just of mortals, but of the heavens themselves. People from neighboring lands and far-flung cities began to make pilgrimages not to the ancient revered temples of Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, but to see this mortal girl psyche. They would gaze upon her and whisper that this was Venus
herself, reborn on Earth, or perhaps a new daughter of the sky, even more divine than the original. They began to offer sacrifices meant for Venus at the feet of Psyche. The altars of the true goddess grew cold. Her temples were neglected. Her statues unadorned. Her festivals forgotten. All the honor, all
the worship that had belonged to the immortal Venus was now being given to a mortal girl who would one day grow old and die. You can imagine how Venus felt about this. High on Olympus, her divine fury simmered, then boiled over to be replaced. To have her sacred rights user
by a mere human, unthinkable. Her rage was a storm gathering on the horizon. She would not stand for it. She called for her son, the winged and mischievous god of love. Cupid used the one with the golden bow and the two sets of arrows. One tipped with gold to inspire uncontrollable love. The other
tipped with lead to create bitter repulsion. He was her enforcer, her weapon. Vanesse pointed him toward the mortal realm, her voice tight with anger. She exclaimed the situation, the insult, the blasphemy of this girl, Psyche. She demanded a punishment, a revenge
worthy of a slighted goddess. But she didn't want Psyche killed. Oh no, that would be too simple, too merciful. Venus's plan was far more cruel, more elegantly twisted. She commanded Cupid to fly down and use his power to make Psyche fall desperately.
Hopelessly in love with the most wretched, the most unsuitable, the most miserable creature he could find. Her love would become a prison, her beauty a curse that led her to ruin. It was a punishment designed not to end her life, but to poison it from the inside out. Cupid, ever the beautiful son, took up
his bow and arrows and flew down towards the earth. His mother's bitter command echoing in his ears. And so down on earth, a strange thing began to happen to Psyche. While people traveled from all over just to look at her, to admire her as if she were a perfect statue, no one actually sought her hand in
marriage. Princes and kings would come to praise her beauty. But then they would go and marry someone else, someone far more ordinary. Her two older sisters, beautiful but not divinely so, had long since found husbands and settled into their royal lives. But Psyche, the most adored woman in the world, remained alone. She was worshiped
from a distance, but never approached, never truly desired as a partner, as a wife. She began to hate the very beauty that brought her this strange isolated fame. Her loneliness was a constant ache. She was celebrated by everyone yet
chosen by no one. Her life felt like a beautiful empty room. Her father, the king, saw his daughter's profound sadness and grew deeply worried. It seemed unnatural, even cursed, that his most beautiful child should be so unlucky in love. He suspected that this
was no ordinary misfortune, that perhaps some divine power was angry with them. Desperate for answers, he decided to consult the great oracle of Apollo Aditas. This was a place of ancient power where the god of prophecy would speak through his priestess, revealing truths and fortelling the future. The king made his
journey, offered the appropriate sacrifices, and humbly asked the god why his daughter could not find a husband and what her destiny held. He begged for a solution, for any guidance that would end his daughter's suffering. He waited, his heart heavy with a mixture of hope and dread for the oracle's response. The
response came, but it was not what the king had hoped for. The words of the oracle were terrifying. A prophecy wrapped in dread. It declared that Psyche was not destined for any mortal husband. Her groom, it said, was waiting for her on the peak of a high
mountain. This destined partner was not human. He was described as a fierce and powerful being. One who troubles the world with fire and steel. A being whom even the gods themselves, including Jupiter, the king of the gods, feared the oracle commanded the king to dress his daughter as if for a funeral, not a
wedding, Thors, and lead her to a designated cliff on the highest mountain. There she was to be left alone to meet her monstrous fate. This was not a marriage. It was a sacrifice. The king was utterly devastated. The prophecy was a death sentence, a horrifying end for
his beloved child. He stumbled away from the oracle, the dreadful words echoing in his mind, his hope shattered into a million pieces. When the king returned to the palace and delivered the oracle's message, the entire city was plunged into mourning. cheer. The joyful preparations they had
hoped to make for a royal wedding were replaced by a somberial procession. The people wept. They tore their clothes. They lamented the cruel fate of their beautiful psyche. It felt like the entire world was weeping with her. Psyche, however, met her fate with a strange and sudden calm.
She had grown weary of her lonely existence, of a beauty that brought her nothing but isolation. She turned to her weeping parents and told them not to mourn. She said that this was the price for the divine honors she had wrongly received. The envy of Venus had finally caught up with her. "Lead me to the
cliff where my destiny awaits," she said, her voice steady. "I am ready to meet this husband the fates have chosen for me." And so the saddest procession imaginable made its way through the streets. The wedding torches sputtered and died in their hands. The joyful wedding hymns turned into mournful
cries. The entire city followed Psyche, dressed in her funeral wedding garments as she walked with a steady grace toward the lonely windswept mountain. They reached the designated rock on the highest peak. Her family and the citizens gave their last tearful farewells. They couldn't bear to watch,
so they descended the mountain. Leaving Psyche standing alone on the precipice, facing the vast empty sky. She stood there trembling, not with fear for the monster, but with the sheer loneliness of her end, abandoned by all she knew and loved. The wind whipped around her,
she closed her eyes, waiting for the dreadful creature the oracle had promised. She waited for the end, but it did not come. Instead of claws or fire, she felt a gentle, impossibly soft breeze begin to swirl around her. It was Zepha, the mildest of the winds. Fee.
The wind lifted her robes, then her feet, and then her entire body from the rocky ledge. She wasn't falling. She was floating. Zephor carried her as gently as a leaf, cradling her in his invisible arms. He bore her slowly, peacefully down from the terrifying cliff, not into
a chasm, but down into a deep hidden valley below. The air grew warm and fragrant with the scent of a thousand flowers. And there, in a meadow of the softest grass and most vibrant blossoms, the gentle wind laid her down. shoe lay there stunned and bewildered on a bed of flowers, the silence of the
