This is a story that asks a very simple question, but the answer, well, the answer is anything but simple. In the kingdom of Madenpor, there was a king named Burbar. But our story isn't about him. It's about a
merchant's daughter, Mutton. Imagine spring itself taking human forms, fa dangerous if you forget what it does to people. One afternoon, Medensina was strolling through her father's gardens, the air thick with the scent of blossoms. And right then, as if fate had planned it, a young man named Sat walked
into that same garden. He was the son of another wealthy merchant. Just passing through, he saw her. And in that one single moment, he fell. You know the kind of fall I'm talking about, the kind where your whole world shrinks down to one person's face. He turned to his friend and said, "If I can't have her, my life is over. I'll just be a corpse
that keeps breathing." And with that thought burning in his mind, he walked straight up to her like a man walking into a fire on purpose. He grabbed her hand. "If you won't love me," he said, his voice shaking, "I will sacrifice my life right here for you." Madensa, startled but firm, pulled her hand away.
Don't say such things. It's a sin. But some dad was lost in his own obsession. He pleaded, "Your glance has pierced my heart. Being apart from you is a fire burning me from the inside. I don't know right from wrong anymore. Just give me your word. Promise you'll be mine and I'll be reborn." And Madden Cena, young and proud, made a promise that would
change everything. A promise that could ruin a reputation and rewrite a destiny. She looked him in the eye and said, "In 5 days, I am to be married. But before I go to my husband, I will come to you first. Only after that will I live in my husband's house. She swore it an unbreakable oath. Then she went home and
some dad went home too, smiling like a man who thinks he just outsmarted the gods themselves. 5 days later, the wedding happened. Medensa was married and her husband took her to his home. Days went by. Her new family, her sister Zindla, started pushing her toward the bridal chamber, urging her to be a wife to her husband. She entered the room and
sat quietly in a corner, a shadow in her own new life. Her husband came to her, he gently took her hand and led her to the bed. But as he leaned in to embrace her, she stopped him with her hand on his chest. Calmly, she confessed everything the promise she made in the garden. the oath she swore to say. Her husband listened to the entire story. He
didn't yell. He didn't get angry. He didn't beg her to stay. He did something much, much rarer. He stood up, walked to the door, and opened it. If you truly wish to go, he said, his voice steady, then go. So Medina left at midnight, dressed in her wedding silks and jewels. She walked out into the darkness on her
way to keep the promise she'd made. As she hurried along the deserted road, a thief stepped out from the shadows. His eyes gleamed when he saw her alone and covered in gold. "Where are you going at this hour?" he asked, draped in riches in the pitch black night. "I'm going to my beloved," she answered without fear. "The thief scoffed." "And who's
protecting you out here?" Madansa lifted her chin. "Cupid protects me," she said. "His bow and arrows are with me." And then she told the thief the whole story. the garden, the oath. Her husband letting her go. She finished by saying, "Don't harm me or ruin my clothes. I swear to you, on my way back, I will give you all of my jewels." The thief
was stunned. He looked at this woman at her honesty, her determination. He thought to himself, "If she's promising to come back and give me the jewels willingly, why would I hurt her now?" He stepped aside and let her pass. Medina finally reached Sat's house. He was fast asleep. She woke him up. He stared at
her confused as if she were a ghost or a goddess from a dream. Who are you? He stammered. "Are you a spirit? A serpent being from the underworld?" "I am Madensa," she said simply. "Don't you remember? You grabbed my hand in the garden. You forced me to make an oath. I swore I would come to you before I went
to my husband. So, I have come. Do what you please." Some dad's face went pale. He asked the one question that now mattered more than any other. Did you tell your husband? I told him everything, she replied. He knows. He allowed me to come. A sudden cold clarity washed over some debt. He started talking about virtue, about fidelity,
about the sin of being with another man's wife if he was desperately trying to convince himself to refuse the very thing he had begged for just days before. And then he delivered the final cutting line. I will have nothing to do with another man's wife. And just like that, it was over. Madensa turned and walked back into the night. She had kept
her promise and it had cost her everything. On the road back, she met the thief again. She told him what had happened, how some dad had rejected her. The thief, hearing the whole story, was amazed by her integrity. He praised her and let her go without taking a single piece of her jewelry. She returned to her husband's house and told him
everything that had transpired. But he didn't welcome her back with open arms. He didn't celebrate her return. Instead, he spoke to her like a judge, his words cold and final. A cuckoo's beauty is its song, he said. A woman's beauty is her fidelity. An ugly man's beauty is his knowledge. And a devotees beauty is
their patience. He was telling her she had lost her greatest virtue. So here's the question. We have three men in this story. The husband who let his new wife go to another man. Sat the lover who refused her when she arrived. And the thief who let her pass twice expecting nothing in return. Among these three whose action was the most honorable,
whose merit was the greatest. Think about it. The husband had a reason to let her go. He knew her heart belonged to another. It was a noble act, but one born from a painful reality. Sat also had a reason to refuse her fear. fear of consequences, of sin, of what society would say. His refusal wasn't about her
honor, but about his own fear. But the thief, the thief had no reason at all to let her go. He was a criminal. His job was to take what he wanted. He could have taken her jewels, her dignity, everything. He had all the power in that situation. And yet, he chose to honor her word. He chose restraint when he had
no reason to. He saw her integrity and decided to match it with his own. In a world of selfish desires and fearful hearts, the thief, the one who had the least to gain from being good, showed the greatest virtue. It's easy to be honorable when you have a reason.
