Episode 0 opens with Psyche performing an original spoken-word piece that spans the entire episode runtime [0:00–5:18]. The performance introduces the concept of the 'nightmare frequency,' beginning with imagery of heat and static before evolving into a narrative about discovering an otherworldly signal. Key thematic elements emerge progressively: at [0:52–1:06], Psyche describes finding a signal in static that knows the listener's name and speaks in 'a language made of screams that can't be heard.' The chorus, introduced at [1:32–2:04], establishes the core premise: 'Welcome to the nightmare frequency / Where the darkness stares directly back at me / Every fear becomes reality.' Midway through at [2:13–2:37], the imagery intensifies with descriptions of eyes emerging from walls, an upside-down moon, and mannequins moving with hidden hunger. The performance builds toward a climax [3:34–4:13] where the signal is personified as something alive—'The radio becomes a living thing'—that feeds on secrets and opens doorways where shadows meet. The final section [4:31–5:18] presents a concluding iteration of the nightmare frequency refrain, ending with the repetition 'Can you hear it?' and the statement 'The signal never dies.'
This episode appears designed to establish a foundational aesthetic and conceptual framework for the show itself—the 'nightmare frequency' functions as both literal and metaphorical entry point into the Cult of Psyche's thematic universe. The performance suggests an exploration of how consciousness interfaces with external signals or forces, where the boundary between internal fear and external broadcast becomes permeable. Psyche's choice to open with a spoken-word piece rather than conversation implies an intention to foreground atmospheric immersion and poetic language over didactic explanation, suggesting the show privileges emotional and intuitive understanding. The recurring motif of the signal that 'spreads through all humanity' and 'never dies' hints at a vision of collective psychological resonance—patterns of fear or awareness that persist across audiences and time. This framing appears to position listeners as active participants tuned into something already broadcasting, rather than passive observers.

Heat. Heat.
I found a signal in A static glow, a whispered voice from somewhere far below. It knew my name before I spoke a word. A language made of screams that can't be heard. Television's flicker in the rain.
Every channel broadcasting the same pain. Shadow fig is standing in the hall. Waiting for the moment that I fall. Turn the dial, hear the sound. Something ancient waking underground.

Echoes from the broken eternity. There's no escape, no sanctuary. Once you're TUNED TO NIGHTMARE FREQUENCY,
a thousand eyes emerge from painted walls, watching silently as midnight calls. The moon hangs upside down above the sea, like a wound carved into infinity. The mannequins have started moving slow.
Smiling with the hunger they don't show. A choir made of voices long erased. Sings forgotten names from outer space. Turn the dial. Hear them sing. Something dead reme.
